SMM February 5 News:

Rare Earth Ore

Prices: Rare earth carbonate prices were approximately 33,600 yuan/mt, monazite prices were around 38,300 yuan/mt, and medium-yttrium, europium-rich ore standard ore prices were about 177,500 yuan/mt.

Supply and Demand: Currently, after the Chinese New Year holiday, the festive atmosphere in the market remains strong, and the activity level of shipments from the mining side is not high.

Rare Earth Oxides

Prices: The mainstream quotation range for Pr-Nd oxide was 415,000-417,000 yuan/mt; the transaction range for dysprosium oxide was around 1.67-1.69 million yuan/mt, and terbium oxide quotations were approximately 5.92-5.96 million yuan/mt.

Supply and Demand: Today, most suppliers exhibited a strong wait-and-see sentiment, with low activity in market quotations and inquiries. Rare earth oxide prices showed no significant changes.

Rare Earth Metals

Prices: The mainstream quotation for Pr-Nd alloy was approximately 508,000-515,000 yuan/mt, dysprosium-iron prices corresponding to oxide quotations were around 1.6-1.63 million yuan/mt, and terbium metal quotations were about 7.4-7.43 million yuan/mt.

Supply and Demand: The market departments of rare earth metal factories have just resumed operations. Market quotations were quiet, with most producers primarily observing post-holiday changes and showing low enthusiasm for active quoting.

Magnetic Materials

Prices: NdFeB blank prices were as follows: NdFeB blank N38 (Ce) closed at 133-143 yuan/kg; NdFeB blank 40M closed at 179-189 yuan/kg; NdFeB blank 40H closed at 183-193 yuan/kg; NdFeB blank 45SH (Ce) closed at 233-253 yuan/kg.

Supply and Demand: After the holiday, some magnetic material factories have resumed production, but as not all workers have returned, overall capacity has not yet reached normal levels. Market trading activity remains low.

NdFeB Scrap

Prices: NdFeB scrap Pr-Nd prices closed at 431-436 yuan/kg; NdFeB scrap dysprosium prices closed at 1,559-1,587 yuan/kg; NdFeB scrap terbium prices closed at 5,087-5,123 yuan/kg.

Supply and Demand: After the Chinese New Year holiday, although some manufacturers continued production without stopping, most enterprises are gradually resuming operations. In the short term, overall production levels have declined compared to pre-holiday levels, and market trading activity remains subdued.

Bao Gang United Steel's Rare Earth Automotive Steel Passes Major Automaker's Painting Certification
Recently, the rare earth automotive steel independently developed by Bao Gang United Steel successfully passed the painting certification of a major automaker. This achievement is of great significance, as it marks the first time that Bao Gang United Steel's rare earth automotive steel has smoothly passed the specialized painting certification of an automaker, formally qualifying it for mass supply. This lays a critical foundation for Bao Gang United Steel to further expand its market in the automotive industry. It is reported that in the supply chain of major automotive steel manufacturers, corrosion resistance in painting is a core entry threshold and also a common technical challenge faced by the entire industry. The automaker involved in this certification has extremely stringent detection standards for corrosion resistance, with the specified corrosion resistance cycle being twice as long as conventional standard requirements.

DoD Awards $2M to ReElement for Rare Earth Expansion in Indiana Facility
The US Department of Defense recently awarded a $2 million contract to ReElement Technologies to support the expansion of its rare earth element separation capacity at its facility in Marion, Indiana. The two-year grant was actually awarded on September 3, 2025, but its announcement was delayed until this week due to a government shutdown. The funding will be specifically used to purify rare earths from ore, recycled magnets, and scrap, as part of the US Department of Energy’s "Mine-to-Magnet" program, which aims to build a domestic rare earth supply chain to reduce reliance on China. ReElement employs a unique chromatography refining technology to produce high-purity rare earth oxides for use in defense and commercial permanent magnets.
