[SMM Lead Ingot Social Inventory: Inventory Buildup Expected to Rise Before Chinese New Year] With the arrival of the Chinese New Year, logistics across the country have largely ceased operations. Meanwhile, downstream enterprises have generally suspended work, with only a few companies continuing production, primarily to consume their own lead inventory. Logistics no longer support spot transactions.....
SMM January 27 News: According to SMM, as of January 27, the total social inventory of lead ingots across five regions tracked by SMM stood at 39,200 mt, down by 6,700 mt compared to January 20, but up by approximately 100 mt compared to January 23.

With the arrival of the Chinese New Year, logistics across regions have largely come to a halt, and downstream enterprises have generally gone on holiday, leaving only a few companies still in operation. However, production is mainly focused on consuming their own lead inventory, as logistics no longer support spot transactions. Additionally, some primary and secondary lead enterprises are expected to conduct shift work during the Chinese New Year. On the supply side, production cuts and holidays are significantly less prevalent than on the consumption side. Post-holiday, the risk of inventory buildup for lead ingots is expected to be high, and due to the suspension of logistics, the inventory buildup will primarily be reflected in smelters' in-plant inventory.

Lead prices were in the doldrums, while secondary lead smelters maintained firm offers due to losses. Next week, secondary lead smelters will enter a concentrated wave of production halts and holidays, resulting in sluggish trading activity in the spot market. Offers for spot refined lead orders were sparse, with prices moving in line with the market.

Sluggish Transactions in Domestic Secondary Crude Lead Market, Prices at 15,250-15,400 Yuan/mt
The domestic secondary crude lead market experienced sluggish transactions. As of February 6, 2026, the ex-factory tax-exclusive offers for domestic secondary crude lead stood at 15,250-15,400 yuan/mt. Downstream refined lead and alloy smelters gradually entered the holiday period, showing weak stockpiling willingness. Overseas lead ingot suppliers basically halted transactions with China due to poor consumption in the Chinese market, with only some previously concluded shipments maintaining normal in-transit transportation. The trading atmosphere in the secondary crude lead market will continue to weaken next week.
