[SMM Analysis] Severe Pressure on Film, Production Schedule Declines

In January, the total production schedule of the PV film industry reached 365 million m², down 14.32% MoM.

In January, the total planned production of PV film reached 365 million m², down 14.32% MoM. This trend was mainly attributed to the reduction in the production schedule of PV modules across the industry. From the perspective of individual enterprises, the situation was not entirely consistent: some enterprises saw an increase in planned production, while others experienced a decline. Enterprises with increased production schedules often proactively reduced orders amid persistently low film prices and significant operational pressure, aiming to secure a foothold in the fiercely competitive market. Meanwhile, top-tier enterprises, excelling in cost control, managed to maintain relatively competitive pricing, enabling them to actively take orders and sustain a relatively stable production pace.

Moving into February, the overall planned production of PV film further declined. This downward trend was primarily influenced by the Chinese New Year holiday and the continued reduction in PV module production schedules. During the holiday, enterprises either halted operations or cut production, coupled with suppressed market demand, leading to a further decrease in film production schedules. This seasonal demand trough posed certain challenges to the entire industry while also providing opportunities for enterprises to optimize production plans and adjust market strategies. Overall, enterprises in the industry need to flexibly adapt their strategies during this period to cope with the ever-changing market environment and prepare for future growth.

Recently, the 850 MW Phase I of the Luobusha PV project in Qusum County, Tibet, constructed by PowerChina, successfully passed completion acceptance, providing important support for easing regional power supply-demand tensions and strengthening the plateau energy supply barrier. The Luobusha PV project in Qusum County, Tibet, covers an area of approximately 4,289.59 mu, with a total installed capacity of 850 MW. It is the first batch of key commercial PV projects at the Yazhong Clean Energy Base in Tibet and the largest PV clean power generation project in the middle and lower reaches of the Yajiang River. The project is developed in four phases, with Phase I at 200 MW and an average elevation of 4,700 meters. Chengdu Engineering Corporation under PowerChina undertook the construction of the 220 kV booster station, 50 MW PV area, 20.74 km transmission line, and expansion of the opposite-side substation; Sinohydro Bureau 9 undertook the construction of the 150 MW PV field area, installing a total of 348,000 PV modules, along with 64 box-type transformers and 704 inverters.
