Shanghai (Gasgoo)- BYD officially put its plug-in hybrid electric pickup, the BYD SHARK, onto the Ecuadorian market, according to a post released on January 23 via its Weibo account.

The BYD SHARK was crafted under the leadership of BYD Design Director Wolfgang Egger, drawing inspiration from sharks' agility and power. The design blends futuristic technology with raw strength, creating a captivating vehicle.

At the core of the BYD SHARK lies the DMO (Dual-Mode Off-road) platform, which combines off-road capability and safety with SUV-like comfort and exceptional energy efficiency. This platform integrates a hybrid-optimized body-on-frame structure, the longitudinal EHS drive assembly, double-wishbone independent suspension at both the front and the rear, and a dedicated rear-drive assembly for pickups. This synergy ensures an unparalleled balance of performance and comfort.

Under the hood, the BYD SHARK is equipped with a plug-in hybrid system encompassing a 1.5T engine and two electric motors. The front electric motor delivers a maximum power of 170 kW and a peak torque of 310 N·m, while the rear one provides a maximum power of 150 kW and a peak torque of 340 N·m. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds. With a battery capacity of 29.58 kWh, the BYD SHARK offers a combined range of 840 km.

Inside, the BYD SHARK includes an intelligent cockpit that integrates seamlessly with various ecosystems. Equipped with voice control features, users can adjust driving modes, control air conditioning, manage music playback, and perform other tasks with simple voice commands, enhancing comfort and convenience.

BYD said it plans to collaborate with local dealers in Ecuador to establish a localized sales and service network, ensuring an enhanced car-purchasing experience for local customers.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
