Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On January 16, Geely Holding Group conducted a ceremony to deliver the first batch of 1,500 ride-hailing vehicles to Harbin Traffic Group, according to a post on Geely's WeChat account.
These fourth-generation Emgrand methanol-fueled electric hybrid vehicles will be put into operation in Harbin, providing low-carbon mobility services for the upcoming Asian Winter Games Harbin 2025 (the Games).
These vehicles are equipped with methanol-electric hybrid engines and hybrid electric drive systems, featuring 20 intelligent driving modes. They enable rapid startup even in low-temperature conditions of high-altitude and cold regions. Additionally, these vehicles can utilize waste heat from the engine, reducing cabin heating power consumption. The methanol consumption for these hybrid vehicles is only 9.2L per 100 kilometers (equivalent to 3.4L of gasoline), reducing carbon emissions by 42%.
Geely will provide a fleet of methanol-fueled service vehicles to support the torch relay, traffic management, and welcoming services for the Games. A total of 350 methanol-fueled hybrid vehicles have already been delivered to the organizing committee.
Geely is also working on building a comprehensive network of methanol refueling stations in Harbin to support the development of the methanol-powered vehicle industry chain in Heilongjiang province and expand carbon-neutral solutions for cold environments.
Besides, Geely has developed more than 20 methanol-powered vehicle models, with accumulative operation distance of over 20 billion kilometers. The company has transitioned methanol vehicles from small-scale pilot operations to large-scale adoption.
In 2025, Geely will globally debut two new models featuring its next-generation "Super Methanol Electric Hybrid" technology, including a sedan and an SUV. With methanol and gasoline in the same fuel tank in flexible ratios, these vehicles can start at temperatures as low as -40°C, with the engine achieving a thermal efficiency of 48.15%.
