BYD Company Limited has selected Dürr as the supplier of cutting-edge painting technology for its first Europe passenger car factory.

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturer BYD Company Limited ("BYD") has selected Dürr, one of the world's leading mechanical and plant engineering firms, as the supplier of cutting-edge painting technology for its first Europe passenger car factory, according to a press release recently issued by Dürr.

Over the coming months, Dürr will deliver more than 120 spray-painting and door-opening robots to BYD's plant in Szeged, Hungary, equipping multiple paint production lines. The robots, featuring the EcoBell3 high-speed rotary atomizer, will provide exceptional painting quality while promoting sustainability in the painting process.

"Dürr, as a global leader in automotive painting solutions, is the ideal partner to execute such large-scale projects on schedule," said Dr. Lars Friedrich, CEO of Dürr's Automotive Division. "What convinced BYD was not only our advanced technology but also our extensive experience in Hungary, where we've successfully completed numerous projects." This marks Dürr Germany's first order in BYD's passenger vehicle segment, following a rigorous supplier audit conducted by BYD.

The painting lines will incorporate Dürr's latest EcoRP series spray-painting robots, available in six-axis and seven-axis configurations for interior and exterior painting. The seven-axis robots offer exceptional precision and flexibility for interior painting, even reaching the most challenging areas of the car body. Meanwhile, the six-axis robots will handle exterior painting.

Additionally, Dürr will supply door-opening robots to assist during the painting process.

According to Dürr, the EcoBell3 high-speed rotary atomizer ensures flawless painting quality, delivering uniform color, smoothness, and film thickness. Paired with proper cleaning equipment and color change technology, the atomizer can minimize paint and solvent consumption, enabling rapid color changes within production cycle times.

In the future, BYD will also implement Dürr's modular and standardized EcoSupply P paint supply system. According to Dürr's introduction, this system uses a cleaning plug that perfectly matches the inner diameter of the paint hoses, pushing paint efficiently to the color changer and returning any excess paint to the container without leaving residue or requiring cleaning. The process reduces paint and solvent consumption, cutting costs and benefiting the environment.

In addition, Dürr will also provide BYD with cleaning robots to remove dust and dirt particles from car bodies before painting. These robots, equipped with flexible feather rollers, can operate in various combinations and sequences to efficiently clean bodies of different shapes, making them ideal for BYD's diverse range of NEVs.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
