According to Polaris Solar PV Network, on January 9, the Sichuan Provincial National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) issued a review opinion on the energy-saving report of a PV manufacturing project, granting in principle approval for the energy-saving report submitted by Zhongwei New Energy (Chengdu) Co., Ltd. for the construction of the Phase I PV monocrystalline silicon wafer smart factory project.

The document indicates that the Phase I PV monocrystalline silicon wafer smart factory project by Zhongwei New Energy is located in Huangjia Street, Shuangliu District, Chengdu City, Sichuan Province, along the southern extension of Xihanggang Avenue. The total investment of the project is 700 million yuan, aiming to establish a production line for PV monocrystalline silicon wafers with an annual output of 20 GW of monocrystalline silicon wafers (182 mm × 210 mm). The project will lease the existing production workshop of the former Tongwei Solar (Chengdu) Co., Ltd., converting the original A1 battery workshop into an A1 slicing workshop. Additionally, it will construct one new C1 cafeteria and involve a total building area of 67,065.14 m² (including 2,570.76 m² of new construction and 64,494.38 m² of leased and renovated area). The project will also purchase and install process equipment such as slotting machines, automatic rod bonding lines, slicing machines, degumming machines, and integrated cleaning machines. The construction period for the project is from November 2024 to September 2025.

Public information shows that Zhongwei New Energy (Chengdu) Co., Ltd. was established in July 2018 with a registered capital of 800 million yuan. Its legal representative is Kuanxin Guo, and its business scope includes the manufacturing of PV equipment and components, battery manufacturing, and mechanical and electrical equipment manufacturing. The company is 100% owned by Tongwei Solar Co., Ltd.

[SMM PV News] Armenia Hits 1.1 GW Solar Capacity,
Armenia’s cumulative solar capacity has surged to 1.1 GW following the addition of approximately 615 MW in 2025. This rapid expansion has pushed solar's share of electricity generation to around 15%, effectively meeting the country's 2030 target years ahead of schedule. The growth is heavily driven by a net-metering scheme supporting over 50,000 autonomous producers (totaling 650 MW), though the government ended loan subsidies for rooftop solar in July to shift focus toward battery storage.
