Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On January 7, 2025, China State Shipbuilding Corporation's Guangzhou Shipyard International Co., Ltd. (CSSC Guangzhou Shipyard International) officially delivered a 7,000CEU (car equivalent unit) dual fuel PCTC (pure car and truck carrier), the "BYD HEFEI", to BYD, according to a post on CSSC Guangzhou Shipyard International's WeChat account.

The PCTC, which measures 199.9 meters in length and 38 meters in width, has a designed draft of 9 meters and a service speed of 18.5 knots. The vessel is powered by an LNG dual-fuel propulsion system and equipped with a permanent magnet shaft generator. Additionally, it incorporates energy-saving measures, including a drag-reducing antifouling coating and various fuel-efficiency devices, making it a green, intelligent, and environmentally efficient pure car and truck carrier.

CSSC Guangzhou Shipyard International plans to construct two vessels of this type, with BYD as the ultimate owner.

CSSC Guangzhou Shipyard International has secured nearly 40 PCTCs of orders, maintaining its position as the global leader in this segment. By the end of 2024, CSSC had delivered 12-vessel 7000CEU LNG dual fuel PCTC with a total capacity of 84,000 car parking spaces, mostly ahead of contractual delivery schedules (over 1,000 days in advance cumulatively).  The BYD HEFEI was delivered more than 80 days earlier than scheduled.

As a leader in China's new energy vehicle (NEV) sector, BYD sold over 4.27 million NEVs in 2024.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
