Shanghai (Gasgoo)- General Motors (GM) and its joint ventures closed 2024 on a high note in China, reporting a 40.6% quarter-on-quarter increase in the fourth-quarter (Q4) deliveries in the country, reaching nearly 600,000 vehicles. This marks the company's strongest sequential growth since Q2 2022.

For the full year of 2024, GM delivered over 1.8 million vehicles in the Chinese market.

"Listening to the customer is our top priority as we look for opportunities to enhance our business," said Steve Hill, GM senior vice president and president of GM China. "By focusing on product strength and the retail experience, we are confident in earning positive feedback from our customers."

GM's joint ventures in China showcased robust growth in the new energy vehicle (NEV) segment. Their NEV deliveries, including battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), surged by 50% year on year in 2024, accounting for nearly half of GM China's annual sales.

As for product highlights, the Buick GL8 family remained the leader in China's premium MPV market. In September last year, it became the first MPV series in China to surpass 2 million units in cumulative production and sales. Since its launch in Q2 2024, the PHEV version has recorded over 23,000-unit deliveries. The all-new Cadillac XT5, launched in September 2024, registered nearly 15,000-unit deliveries in Q4, marking a strong debut. Besides, the Wuling Hongguang MINIEV family continued its dominance in the micro EV market, achieving over 100,000 units of sales in Q4 and surpassing 260,000-unit annual sales in 2024.

GM’s premium import vehicle platform, The Durant Guild, introduced the Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon to the Chinese market in 2024. Deliveries of the two full-size SUVs are scheduled to begin in March 2025. The Durant Guild currently operates seven brand experience centers in major cities across China and plans to open an additional seven centers in 2025, expanding its presence in the luxury import segment.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
