Brazilian Mining Firm Serra Verde Group to Boost Rare Earth Metal Production

Published: Jan 7, 2025 16:08

Brazilian mining company Serra Verde Group is expected to increase its production of rare earth metals. According to Bloomberg, the company launched the first phase of its project at the Pela Ema mine in Goiás state last year, beginning the production of mixed rare earth concentrates. The Pela Ema mine is a large and long-life ion-adsorption deposit containing high-value rare earth elements such as neodymium, praseodymium, terbium, and dysprosium, which play a critical role in energy transformation.

Ricardo Grossi, Chief Operating Officer of Serra Verde Group, stated that the company aims to achieve an annual production of 5,000 mt of rare earth oxides by 2026. Additionally, the company is actively considering establishing strategic partnerships with other potential enterprises to further enhance its production and processing capacity for rare earth metals.

[SMM Rare Earth Weekly Review: Market Sluggish around Holiday, Rare Earth Prices in the Doldrums] The Pr-Nd oxide market saw a poor trading atmosphere recently. Downstream metal plants showed low enthusiasm in inquiries and procurement around the holiday, but upstream suppliers maintained firm offers amid tight spot cargo availability, and low-priced sources remained difficult to find. Overall, Pr-Nd oxide price fluctuations were relatively small. As of today, Pr-Nd oxide prices adjusted slightly downward to 762,000-768,000 yuan/mt.
