Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On January 6, Chinese smart electric vehicle maker XPeng Inc. (XPENG) and Volkswagen Group China announced a strategic partnership in the field of super-fast charging networks with a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed on spot.

Under the MoU, XPENG and Volkswagen Group China will grant each other access to their proprietary super-fast charging networks, jointly aiming to establish the largest super-fast charging network in China.

Through this strategic collaboration, the two companies will provide customers access to a network of over 20,000 charging terminals spanning 420 cities across China. Leveraging their complementary strengths in high-power liquid-cooled super-fast charging technology and extensive domestic network coverage, customers of both brands will enjoy an enhanced and seamless fast charging experience nationwide.

To further accelerate the expansion of charging infrastructure and improve the efficiency of network development, the two parties will also explore co-developing super-fast charging stations under a joint brand.

The two companies commented that the new strategic collaboration marks the fourth milestone in the long-term partnership between XPENG and Volkswagen Group. They plan to further explore strategic cooperation opportunities, expand technological collaboration, and strengthen their mutually beneficial partnership.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
