Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On December 28, Anhui Wuyao Automotive Glass Co., Ltd. (Anhui Wuyao) officially commenced the operation of its automotive glass project with an annual production capacity of 4 million sets in Bengbu city, Anhui province, according to a post on local authority's WeChat account.

At the event, the company's first automotive glass product also rolled off the production line, discontinuing Anhui province's history of lacking the automotive glass manufacturing capability.

As the largest automotive glass production base of Wuhan Wuyao Safety Glass Co., Ltd. (WYP Glass) in China, Anhui Wuyao is poised to surpass the scale of its Wuhan headquarters once fully operational. It will serve as a key strategic hub targeting the Yangtze River Delta market.

WYP Glass, a Chinese supplier of automotive glass and relevant assembly systems, provides wide range of products and services to many renowned automakers, including BYD, Dongfeng Honda, Dongfeng Nissan, Great Wall Motor, and Geely.

At the end of 2023, WYP Glass signed an agreement with local authority of the Bengbu High-Tech Zone to invest 2 billion yuan in a new energy vehicle (NEV) glass project with an annual capacity of 4 million sets, making it the first automotive glass project in Anhui Province. After nearly a year of construction, the project officially started operations in Bengbu city, filling the gap in the production of high-end automotive glass in Anhui province.

The project is set to be built in two phases. The first phase, with a 500-million-yuan investment, involves the renovation of approximately 150,000 square meters of factory buildings and supporting facilities, the purchase and installation of automotive glass processing and production equipment, as well as public utilities. It will feature six automotive glass production lines, including front windshield and roof glass, door glass, side window glass, and rear windshield production lines, with an annual production capacity of 1-million-set automotive glass. The second phase, with an investment of 1.5 billion yuan, will achieve production capacity of 3 million sets annually.

In the first phase, Anhui Wuyao has purchased equipment including nine corner window injection molding machines and door glass, and deployed smart production lines for glass manufacturing, with a total investment exceeding 100 million yuan. The products have been supplied to automakers such as Hefei BYD and Chery, generating over 22 million yuan in sales revenue. The project achieved construction, production, and regulatory approval within the same year. Additionally, production lines for front windshield, side windows, and rear windshield glass, involving an investment of over 150 million yuan, will begin operations by the end of September 2025, enabling the full production capability for NEV glass.

Furthermore, the second automotive door glass and front windshield production lines are expected to be completed by the end of May 2026, further enhancing Anhui Wuyao's production capacity.
