On December 29, NIO announced the launch of its 2,900th battery swapping station in China, located in Sanmenxia city, Henan province, further expanding NIO's battery swapping network.

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On December 29, NIO announced the launch of its 2,900th battery swapping station in China, which is located in Sanmenxia city, Henan province, further expanding NIO's battery swapping network.

Having completed the 2,800th station on December 16, NIO increased its battery swapping network by another 100 stations within half a month.

At the Power Up 2024 event in August this year, William Li, the Founder, Chairman, and CEO of NIO, announced the planning on "Power Up Counties", which consists of the county-level electric vehicle (EV) charging network and the county-level battery swapping network in China.

With the plan, NIO is to expand its charging network, installing chargers in all counties in China. Moreover, NIO will carry out the plan to expand the battery swapping network carried out in three phases: By June 30, 2025, NIO Power Swap Station (PSS) will be built in over 1,200 counties of 14 provincial-level administrative divisions; by December 31, 2025, the PSS network will be available in counties of another 13 provincial-level administrative divisions. By then, NIO PSS will have covered over 2,300 counties of 27 provincial-level administrative divisions. Starting 2026, NIO will expand coverage in the remaining provincial-level administrative divisions. NIO's charging and swapping network is expected to be enhanced and expanded with the release of "Power Up Counties", offering convenient, efficient, and reassuring experiences for NIO, ONVO, and other new energy vehicle (NEV) users.

As of December 29, NIO has built a total of 2,905 battery swapping stations and deployed 4,220 charging stations with 24,795 charging piles across China.

Additionally, at the 2024 Chengdu Motor Show earlier this year, NIO's Co-founder and President Mr. Lihong Qin introduced the 318 Sichuan-Xizang battery swapping route spanning 2,800 kilometers, along which NIO plans to establish 14 battery swapping stations. To date, with five already operational, the company aims to build nine additional stations, completing the Sichuan segment by the end of this year and the Xizang segment ahead of next year’s Chengdu Motor Show.

On December 18, NIO announced the completion of its battery swapping network that covers China's 9 north-south and 9 east-west main highways, connecting all major cities across the country. This network spans 12 key city clusters, including the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, the Yangtze River Delta region, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and the Chengdu-Chongqing region.

In addition to building its proprietary charging network, NIO has continued to form partnerships with other automakers to enhance charging and battery swapping connectivity. Brands such as Xiaomi EV, AVATR, Chery, MHERO, Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA, Huawei's smart car alliance), Hongqi, DEEPAL, AION, IM Motors, ZEEKR, Lotus Cars, Cadillac, Buick, and XPENG now share charging interoperability with NIO's charging facilities.

On December 25, NIO formed a charging network collaboration with Xiaomi EV. As per the agreement, Xiaomi EV users can locate and use NIO EV charging piles nationwide via the Xiaomi EV app or in-car navigation systems.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
