Beijing (Gasgoo)- On December 29, Chinese automaker SAIC Motor signed a strategic technical cooperation agreement with Egypt's multinational conglomerate Mansour Group to launch local production and assembly of MG-branded vehicles in the country.

As a major player in the global automotive market, SAIC Motor has steadily advanced its internationalization strategy, establishing a comprehensive automotive value chain that includes R&D centers, manufacturing facilities, marketing hubs, supply chain centers, and financial services in over 100 countries and regions. In 2023, SAIC Motor's overseas sales reached 1.2 million vehicles.

Under this new collaboration, Mansour Group will produce the next-generation MG5 sedan at its new greenfield factory. Future plans include expanding production to SUV and new energy vehicle models, such as battery-electric vehicles (BEVs), hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs).

According to the agreement, Mansour Manufacturing and Mobility (MMM), a subsidiary of Mansour Group, has secured a land lease agreement with the General Authority for Land and Dry Port Logistics Zones. The modern plant will be constructed in the 6th of October Industrial Park, with an initial annual capacity of 50,000 vehicles, doubling to 100,000 vehicles when the second phase is completed.

The factory aims to achieve a localization rate exceeding 45% and includes a streamlined layout: an 8,000-square-meter body shop, a 12,000-square-meter advanced paint shop, a 10,000-square-meter general assembly shop, and additional facilities such as an administrative building and a 5,000-square-meter warehouse.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
