Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On December 22, LG Energy Solution announced at the World Intelligent Manufacturing Conference 2024 the establishment of its China headquarters in the Nanjing Economic and Technological Development Zone. This marks the 10th company established by the LG Corp. in the development zone.

The new headquarters is set to oversee the accounting, tax, legal affairs, logistics, and procurement operations for LG Energy Solution's subsidiaries in China and manage cross-border cash pools. Additionally, it will conduct R&D in new energy vehicle batteries and relevant materials, and be responsible for investments in both upstream and downstream industries.

Since 1995, LG Corp. has invested over USD 8 billion in this development zone, establishing 10 companies and creating nearly 30,000 jobs. In collaboration with over 40 supporting enterprises, the company's industrial chain enterprises achieved a total output value of over 130 billion yuan in 2023. This has contributed to the development of Nanjing's first national-level economic and technological development zone and solidified South Korean investment in the region.

Currently, LG Energy Solution is working on its intelligent battery production line project in the region. Its "smart manufacturing" system, which is based on automation, informatization, and intelligence driven by big data and artificial intelligence, provides a stable production and operation framework. The company aims to implement digitalization and informatization across the entire lifecycle, from product design and production to logistics and sales, enhancing production efficiency, resource utilization, and ensuring product quality.

During the conference, LG Energy Solution showcased a range of products, including power batteries, energy storage batteries, and small batteries.

At the power battery stand, LG Energy Solution presented comprehensive new energy vehicle-related solutions, including cells, modules, BMS (battery management system), and battery packs, which are used in both passenger and commercial vehicles. At the energy storage battery spot, the company highlighted its product applications in the grid, commercial residential sectors, and UPS (uninterruptible power supply) equipment. At the small battery area, the company displayed its 1865 and 2170 cylindrical batteries. Utilizing a proprietary pouch design and leveraging patented folding and stacking technologies, the company manufactures ultra-thin, high-capacity, and multi-form batteries, which are widely adopted in 4-wheel light electric vehicles, power tools, robots, and other devices.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
