GAC Group launches in-house developed humanoid robot 'GoMate'

The launch of GoMate marks a significant breakthrough for GAC Group in the field of intelligent robotics and signals the beginning of a new era in embodied intelligent humanoid robots.

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On December 26, 2024, the China Robotics Network Annual Conference was held in Shanghai, where GAC Group unveiled its self-developed third-generation embodied intelligent humanoid robot, GoMate, according to a post on GAC Group's WeChat account.

The automaker said the launch of GoMate marks a significant breakthrough for GAC Group in the field of intelligent robotics and signals the beginning of a new era in embodied intelligent humanoid robots.

Dr. Zhang Aimin, head of the GAC Group's robotics R&D team, stated that GoMate is a new "smart tool" designed for the future of human life. He emphasized that the robot has vast potential applications across security, healthcare, automotive aftermarket, and more, enhancing human work efficiency and capabilities. GoMate is also expected to expand into logistics, education, and other fields, offering smarter and more convenient services.

GoMate is a full-sized wheeled humanoid robot with 38 degrees of freedom. It features an innovative variable wheel-foot mobility structure, combining both four-wheel and two-wheel modes. In four-wheel mode, the robot stands at approximately 1.4 meters, while in two-wheel mode, it reaches up to 1.75 meters. Additionally, in four-wheel mode, GoMate can navigate stairs, climb slopes, and overcome obstacles, while in two-wheel mode, it becomes more agile and efficient, occupying less space.

Beyond precise motion control, GoMate integrates GAC Group's in-house developed pure-vision autonomous driving algorithm, enabling capabilities like autonomous navigation. Among its standout features are the FIGS-SLAM algorithm architecture, which allows the robot to transition from flat to spatial intelligence; the cloud-based multimodal AI large models that enable rapid, millisecond-level responses to complex voice commands; and immersive teleoperation through 3D-GS 3D scene reconstruction and VR headsets. GoMate can autonomously plan movements and collect data efficiently, while its indoor and outdoor full-scene SLAM technology ensures centimeter-level positioning accuracy. The robot also uses sensitive autonomous obstacle-avoidance technology to detect and respond to obstacles up to 100 meters away.

These technologies allow GoMate to navigate complex environments with precision and agility, completing tasks efficiently.

The robot's unique variable wheel-foot design enhances its stability and adaptability in complex environments while significantly reducing energy consumption, offering over 80% energy savings compared to similar products. Thanks to GAC Group's all-solid-state battery, GoMate achieves a battery life of up to six hours, ensuring strong performance during extended tasks or environmental exploration.

As GAC Group's third-generation humanoid robot, GoMate's hardware includes the automaker's fully self-developed key components such as the dexterous hands, actuators, and motors. Notably, its ergonomic hand design combines flexibility and strength, considering both load-bearing capacity and safety requirements for practical applications. The robot also features miniature low-voltage servo actuators, which are less than 30mm in height and near the size of a coin, but capable of delivering 20A of drive power. The axial flux motor offers a peak torque of 1,000N·m with a torque density of 200N·m/kg.

Moreover, GAC Group has successfully built a low-cost, high-performance system platform, allowing GoMate to meet the demands of both high performance and cost effectiveness.

On the software side, GoMate stands out with its advanced remote control and data transmission technology. It provides real-time perception and precise environmental awareness, while its self-developed full-body control algorithm allows for accurate manipulation of its 38 degrees of freedom. The robot's multimodal AI perception technology enables autonomous movement, end-effector tracking, and voice command recognition, enhancing its intelligent capabilities.

Seamless switching between remote control and AI autonomous control ensures GoMate can meet various user needs, greatly improving user experience. The robot's open-source large models have been fine-tuned with vast data input and deep learning optimization, enabling GoMate to excel in recognition, understanding, and decision-making, making it increasingly human-like.

GAC Group said the GoMate is expected to be applied in industry and security sectors where there is a pressing need for intelligent automation and advanced technical adaptability.

The company aims to achieve mass production of the robot's self-developed components by 2025 to meet the growing market demand. Demonstrations will begin at GAC's production lines and industrial parks, including those for GAC Trumpchi and GAC AION. The complete machine is scheduled to go into volume production at a small scale in 2026.
