Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On December 24, Rapow Technology Co., Ltd. (Rapow Technology) celebrated the rollout of its 100,000th-unit electric drive assembly at its intelligent ecological electric drive factory, according to a post on Rapow Technology's WeChat account.

Rapow Technology, co-invested by GAC Group, GAC AION, and GAC Trumpchi, started construction of its intelligent ecological electric drive factory on December 29, 2022. The facility began operations on January 30, 2024. The completion marks GACAION has achieved in-house development and production capabilities across the three core components of NEVs (new energy vehicles): battery, electric motor, and electronic control system.

With a total investment of 2.16 billion yuan and spanning 104,000 square meters, the plant focuses onin-house R&D and industrialization of the IDU (integrated drive unit) electric drive system and electronic control units, achieving a fully integrated approach covering R&D, manufacturing, sales, and service. It is expected to produce 400,000 sets of IDU electric drive systems and 100,000 sets of electric motors and electronic control system for GMC hybrid electromechanical coupling systems annually.

Rapow Technology has produced a range of electric drive systems, including the M25 Super Electric Drive, the M58 Supercar Electric Drive, the M15 N-in-one Electric Drive, and the M10 N-in-1 Electric Drive. These systems are installed in models like the HYPTEC HT, the HYPTEC HL, the HYPTEC SSR, the second-generation AION V, the AION RT, and the AIOIN UT, covering A-, B-, and C-segment BEVs (battery electric vehicles) and PHEVs (plug-in hybrid vehicles).

Notably, GAC AION's Inpow Battery Intelligent Ecological Plant was completed and put into operation on December 12, 2023. This facility can achieve a production capacity of 6GWh per year in the first phase, with plans to reach 36GWh, supporting battery installations for 600,000 NEVs annually. Additionally, this plant also mass-produces sodium-ion and solid-state batteries.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
