Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On December 25, Xiaomi EV announced through its official Weibo account strategic partnerships with NIO, XPENG, and Li Auto to collaborate on charging network interoperability.
The hashtag "#Xiaomi Announces Partnership With NIO#" quickly trended on Weibo, sparking widespread attention. Xiaomi Group’s founder, Chairman, and CEO Lei Jun also commented on this milestone collaboration with the three prominent Chinese new energy vehicle makers.
NIO and XPeng have been making great efforts to build their own charging infrastructures. As of December 24 this year, NIO has operated 4,206 charging stations and provides access to around 1,174,800 third-party charging piles across China. XPENG's network, as of December 19, includes over 1,830 self-operated stations and 9,370 charging piles. Meanwhile, Li Auto, a newer player in the charging ecosystem, has steadily expanded its network to 1,226 superfast charging stations and 2,115 preferred stations nationwide as of December 15.
With this partnerships, Xiaomi EV's charging map now integrates over 14,000 NIO charging piles, more than 9,000 XPENG charging piles, and over 6,000 Li Auto charging piles. The network allows users to access real-time updates on charging status. However, service availability varies slightly: Li Auto only supports Xiaomi EV app scanning on selected piles, while XPENG offers plug-and-charge functionality.
In March 2024, Lei Jun announced Xiaomi EV's plan to build its own supercharging network, gradually launching in cities like Beijing, Shanghai, and Hangzhou, featuring a 600kW liquid-cooled ultra-fast charging solution. However, in August, Lei Jun clarified that Xiaomi's primary focus remains on vehicle manufacturing, particularly optimizing the SU7's compatibility with public charging networks.
Xiaomi EV highlighted that the SU7 has undergone over 70,000 charging tests with various service providers, resolving over 500 compatibility issues across over 200 different charging pile models, achieving over 99% compatibility with third-party infrastructure. In addition, Xiaomi introduced a home charging solution with features like "one-touch opening" and over-the-air (OTA) upgrades.
This collaboration with NIO, XPENG, and Li Auto not only enhances the convenience of charging for Xiaomi EV users but also drives additional traffic to the charging networks of its partners, creating a win-win situation for all parties involved.
