Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On December 18, NIO officially completed its battery swapping network that covers China's 9 north-south and 9 east-west main highways, connecting all major cities across the country, according to a post on the company's WeChat account.

This network spans 12 key city clusters, including the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, the Yangtze River Delta region, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and Chengdu-Chongqing region. Along these routes, users can complete a battery swap in just three minutes at service areas.

NIO's battery swapping station went live at the Hongze Lake service area along the G25 Changchun-Shenzhen Expressway, marking the completion of the aforesaid battery swapping network. The Tianjin-Shenzhen segment of the G25 Changchun-Shenzhen Expressway runs 2,603 kilometers from Tianjin in the north to Shenzhen in the south, featuring 32 NIO battery swapping stations. It traverses eight cities and provinces, including Hebei, Shandong, Jiangsu, Anhui, Zhejiang, Fujian, and Guangdong provinces, as well as Tianjin city, connecting North, East, and South China.

On September 21, 2021, NIO first unveiled its plan to complete a battery swapping network that covers 5 north-south and 3 east-west main highways, and 4 major city clusters, facilitating long-distance travel for electric vehicle users. At the NIO Power Day 2022, the company expanded the plan to complete the network covering 9 north-south and 9 east-west main highways, and 19 major city clusters. Those highways are regarded as China's busiest 18 expressways.

By December 18 this year, NIO had established a total of 2,808 battery swapping stations across China, including 913 highway battery swapping stations, connecting over 700 cities nationwide. The company said the network ensures battery swapping stations are available every 200 kilometers on average along highways, with the distance reducing to just 50 to 100 kilometers along the 9 north-south and 9 east-west highways.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
