Shanghai (Gasgoo)- BYD recently announced a new recruitment initiative, drawing widespread attention to its focus on the burgeoning field of embodied intelligence.
According to a post on the WeChat account "BYD Recruitment", the company is seeking master's and doctoral graduates from universities worldwide to join its Embodied Intelligence Research Team. Eligible candidates include domestic graduates completing studies between September 2024 and August 2025 and overseas graduates finishing between July 2024 and December 2025.
The recruitment spans disciplines such as mechanical engineering, automation, mechanics, computer science, mathematics, electronics, and electrical engineering. Positions available include Senior Algorithm Engineers and Senior Structural Engineers, with research areas covering deep learning, perception systems, humanoid robots, and quadruped robotic dogs.
BYD established its Embodied Intelligence Research Team in 2022 to leverage its extensive application scenarios for custom robot and system development. The team focuses on enhancing robots' perception and decision-making capabilities to drive industrial applications. Current achievements include developing process robots, intelligent collaborative robots, smart mobile robots, and humanoid robots.
The concept of embodied intelligence, which involves equipping AI with physical entities such as robots or automated devices to interact with the real world, has emerged as a pivotal pathway for AI to bridge the digital and physical realms. Leading Chinese technology companies, including Huawei and Xiaomi, are actively entering this space.
Recently, Xiaomi-backed large-model robotics company Xiaoyu Bot completed a new financing round led by Beijing Information Industry Development Investment Fund. The proceeds will be used for stepping up R&D, product innovation, and enhancing market competitiveness. This follows earlier angel investments from Xiaomi Group, Zhongguancun Zhiyou Scientist Fund, and Being Academy of Artificial Intelligence.
Earlier, Huawei's Global Embodied Intelligence Industry Innovation Center in Shenzhen commenced operations, signing memorandums of understanding with 16 related companies. The center's initial plans involve integrating Huawei's capabilities in embodied intelligence to develop key technologies such as intelligent brains, sub-brains, and toolchains.
