Beijing (Gasgoo)- On December 6, autonomous driving tech company WeRide and global mobility and delivery giant Uber Technologies, Inc. announced the launch of their autonomous ride-hailing (Robotaxi) service in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
This marks Uber's first deployment of autonomous vehicles outside the United States and establishes the largest commercial Robotaxi fleet outside the U.S. and China.
The initiative has received significant backing from Integrated Transport Centre, Abu Dhabi Mobility, signaling a pivotal step toward integrating autonomous vehicles into everyday transportation in the region. Tawasul Transport, a leading UAE-based transport company, will oversee fleet operations.
Starting the same day, Uber users in Abu Dhabi booking UberX or Uber Comfort rides may be matched with WeRide's Robotaxis. Initially, the service will cover key areas, including Saadiyat Island, Yas Island, and routes to and from Abu Dhabi International Airport. Plans are underway to expand coverage to additional regions in the future.
