Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On November 29, BYD's second roll-on/roll-off (ro-ro) vessel, named "BYD CHANGZHOU" after the company's Changzhou factory, departed from Yantai, Shandong province. After loading nearly 5,000 BYD new energy vehicles (NEVs) at Lianyungang and Taicang ports in Jiangsu province, the ship is en route to the port of Bristol, UK, and the port of Rotterdam, the Netherlands. This addition significantly strengthens BYD's competitive edge in international shipping and accelerates its global market expansion.
Like BYD's first ro-ro vessel, "EXPLORER NO.1", which set sail on January 15, 2024, "BYD CHANGZHOU" is also built to the high international standards, said the company. Measuring 199.9 meters in length with a capacity of 7,000 standard vehicle units, the ship is equipped with advanced LNG dual-fuel propulsion technology. This eco-friendly and efficient system not only minimizes carbon emissions during transportation but also underscores BYD's commitment to sustainable development.
China's automobile exports have surged in recent years, with 5.28 million vehicles exported from January to October 2024, marking a 25% year-on-year increase. BYD's ownership of its shipping fleet enables it to control logistics, reduce costs and transit times, and enhance market responsiveness—key factors in maintaining its competitive edge globally.
BYD emphasized that building its maritime shipping capabilities ensures the stability and timeliness of its export supply chain while enhancing its global brand image and reputation.
With BYD's NEVs now available in 99 countries and regions worldwide, the company is rapidly accelerating its international presence. The deployment of more Ro-Ro vessels will further support BYD in delivering high-quality, eco-friendly NEVs to consumers across the globe.
