Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On November 26, CATL QIJI Energy (QIJI Energy), a subsidairy of CATL, and Yantian International Container Terminal (YANTIAN) officially announced the launch of the world's first in-port all-in-one heavy-duty truck chassis battery swapping station, according to a post on CATL's official WeChat account.

The two companies plans to collaborate on port logistics transformation, development of intelligent ports, and creation of a green, low-carbon transportation system. They also intend to provide valuable experience for scaling up the adoption of new energy heavy trucksacross China.

Located within Yantian Port, the new battery swap station represents a groundbreaking innovation in global port logistics and a pioneering integration of green energy with modern logistics. CATL said this facility delivers dual benefits: reduced costs and environmental advantages for the logistics industry.

The new battery swap station by QIJI Energy is compatible with multiple brands and models of pure electric heavy-duty trucks, enabling seamless battery swaps in just five minutes—down from the one hour required for conventional charging. This significantly boosts operational efficiency at the port. Additionally, the innovative under-chassis battery design increases each truck's capacity to 342 kWh, lowering the vehicle's center of gravity for safer and smoother driving while minimizing downtime caused by frequent charging, ensuring uninterrupted port operations.

Compared to traditional oil-fueled trailers, heavy-duty trucks using QIJI Energy's battery swapping solution are expected to reduce energy consumption costs by 20%. In the initial collaboration, QIJI Energy and YANTIAN plan to deploy the first batch of nearly 100 pure electric heavy-duty trucks, which are projected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 5,000 tonnes annually. This will significantly improve the environmental quality of the port and surrounding areas, while optimizing port logistics efficiency.
