Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On November 25, Nanjing Steel Group Co., Ltd. ("Nanjing Steel") and CATL signed a strategic cooperation agreement in Ningde city, Fujian province, according to a post on CATL's WeChat account. The partnership marks CATL's first collaboration with a state-owned steel giant, signaling a new direction for synergy between the renewable energy sector and traditional high-carbon industries.

The steel industry, a critical backbone for infrastructure, automotive, equipment manufacturing, and construction, accounts for approximately 15% of China's carbon emissions. With the sector set to join the national carbon market by year end, its transformation toward low-carbon operations is vital to achieving China's carbon neutrality goals.

Leveraging CATL's expertise in zero-carbon technologies, the two companies will combine resources to explore innovative applications. These include developing "zero-carbon energy" and "zero-carbon transportation" scenarios, and establishing "zero-carbon industrial parks" and "zero-carbon water-land transport hubs." They aim to jointly create impactful zero-carbon solutions that can be deployed nationwide.

The partnership will extends to intelligent industrial products, electrification of construction machinery, lightweight hybrid materials applications, green transportation using electric heavy-duty trucks, and photovoltaic energy applications. By tapping into energy-saving and carbon-reduction potential, the collaboration seeks to enhance process efficiency, accelerate decarbonization retrofitting, and implement comprehensive carbon asset management across the value chain.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
