Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On November 22, Changan Automobile, CATL, and CATL's subsidiary CAES held a signing ceremony in Chongqing to formalize their tripartite cooperation on battery-swapping projects. The event marked the simultaneous market launch of Changan's Oshan 520 model, the first vehicle equipped with CATL's new-generation Choco-SEB (swapping electric block ) technology, and the corresponding Choco-SEB battery swap stations.

On the same day, CAES signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement with Sinopec's Chongqing branch, agreeing to collaborate extensively on the construction and operation of battery swap stations, market expansion, and brand promotion.

CATL stated that this partnership represents a synergy of strengths between Changan Automobile and CATL in the battery swapping sector. Together, they aim to establish a safe, reliable, efficient, and eco-friendly ecosystem for electric vehicle battery swapping, enhancing the energy replenishment experience and advancing pure electric mobility.

During the event, representatives from Chongqing's taxi and ride-hailing companies observed a live demonstration of the battery swap process, which enables a fully charged battery in just two minutes, supporting a driving range of up to 500 kilometers.

Changan Automobile said the Oshan 520 addresses common concerns of EV users—range anxiety, charging time, and overall costs—through features like "one-click battery swapping" and "battery-car separation." The battery-swapping technology allows for refueling speeds comparable to gasoline vehicles, saving drivers more than two hours of charging time per day. The "battery-car separation" model treats the battery as a shared asset, enabling users to swap or recharge batteries independently. This model reduces both purchase costs and insurance premiums for users.

The Choco-SEB battery swap stations, developed by CATL, leverage the company's technical expertise and industrial resources. In addition to high-quality, standardized battery modules, the stations offer an innovative swapping service designed for seamless and efficient operations. It will support the Oshan 520 vehicle model in energy replenishment.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
