Beijing (Gasgoo)- Starting in January 2025, BMW will produce the new BMW 5 Series equipped with Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) technology, marking BMW's first model to feature integrated V2X capabilities for vehicle-road-cloud communication, according to BMW's WeChat post on November 11.

This advancement represents a significant step toward higher-level autonomous driving, with the new V2X module providing critical safety alerts such as Emergency Brake Warning (EBW), Red-Light Violation Warning (RLVW), and Intersection Collision Warning (ICW).

The addition of V2X technology enhances the BMW 5 Series' active safety features, working in tandem with Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) to offer early collision and red-light warnings. This gives drivers additional response time in potential collision scenarios, improving overall road safety and traffic flow efficiency. BMW's mass production of the V2X-equipped 5 Series also sets the stage for its advancement into future high-level autonomous driving.

Designed to support reliable L3 and above autonomous systems, BMW's V2X technology operates on direct communication, independent of cellular network coverage, enabling real-time data exchanges within wireless range. This setup allows the vehicle to function similarly to a walkie-talkie, issuing warnings well before an AEB activation threshold is reached, thus empowering drivers to react proactively to potential hazards.

Currently, BMW's V2X technology can simultaneously process the potential collision rate of up to 200 vehicles within its communication coverage.
