On 5 November, Lithium Argentina reported the operational results for Q3 2024, citing increased production at its flagship Caucharí-Olaroz lithium brine project in Argentina.
Caucharí-Olaroz produced approximately 6,800 tonnes of lithium carbonate in the quarter, marking a 21% increase from Q2. The site is now operating at 75-80% of its 40,000-tonne annual design capacity, with full-year production expected between 20,000 and 25,000 tonnes. Commercial production was officially achieved in October.
Lithium carbonate was sold primarily to Ganfeng Lithium, with realized prices averaging US$8,000 per tonne in Q3. Prices have fallen to US$7,000 per tonne post-quarter due to market conditions.
The management team further says that despite an 18% drop in lithium prices, Caucharí-Olaroz remains close to breakeven in cash flow in Q4, supported by operational optimizations and reduced processing costs. Current production, at 75-80% of capacity, is expected to be sustained into early 2025, with future growth plans under discussion with Ganfeng.
