Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On October 30, Geely Auto launched its latest super hybrid technology, the NordThor EM-i, designed to set new standards in energy efficiency and intelligent driving.

Geely's hybrid technology line-up now includes two advanced NordThor systems: the EM-P, known for high-speed performance, and the new EM-i, optimized for smoother urban driving with exceptional fuel economy. The NordThor EM-P has already featured in high-performance models like the Lynk & Co 07 and 08, while the EM-i system will debut on the Geely Galaxy Starship 7.

The NordThor EM-i boasts groundbreaking innovations across its powertrain, starting with the new BHE15 four-cylinder engine, which achieves a thermal efficiency of 46.5%. In real-world tests, models equipped with the EM-i system reached a maximum range of 2,390.5 kilometers with fuel consumption as low as 2.62 liters per 100 kilometers.

At the core of the NordThor EM-i's architecture is Geely's E-DHT 11-in-1 electric drive system, which integrates components for a lighter, more compact system, reducing weight by 13.5% and boosting efficiency. The electric motor operates at an impressive peak efficiency of 98.02%, with a total electric drive efficiency of 92.5%. This system combines the P1 + P3 electric motor setup, the P1+P3 electric control system, an SiC boost module, and a robust thermal management and traction control suite.

A standout feature of the EM-i hybrid is its use of silicon carbide (SiC) boost technology, allowing optimal multi-voltage adjustment and a 160 kW P3 motor for power consistency. Paired with the Geely Aegis battery dedicated to plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, the system promises seamless driving even with low battery levels.

The EM-i also introduces safety redundancy technology, where each power component—engine, P1 motor, and P3 motor—serves as a backup, ensuring the vehicle remains operational even if one part fails, significantly enhancing safety.

The NordThor EM-i leverages AI through Geely's integrated Space-ground-cloud smart network, using advanced algorithms for smart energy management, movement control, and diagnostics. Powered by Geely's Xingrui Intelligent Computing Center, the system uses AI large models to analyze data from environmental sensors, driver behavior, and navigation, optimizing energy use, vehicle control, and diagnostic functions. By learning from user patterns, such as preferred routes, temperature settings, and charging habits, the EM-i optimizes fuel and battery usage for outstanding energy management.

Manufactured in the "micron factory" at the Geely Yiwu power base, the NordThor EM-i undergoes rigorous global-standard testing to ensure durability and reliability. Its powertrain assembly has undergone over 1,000 trials, logging a cumulative 40 million test kilometers to meet the stringent quality benchmarks.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
