Rio Tinto Boosts Ownership in NZ Aluminum Smelter and Boyne Smelters Limited

Rio Tinto recently announced that it has successfully acquired a 20.64% stake in Sumitomo Chemical's aluminum smelter in New Zealand, giving Rio Tinto full ownership of the plant. The New Zealand aluminum smelter is responsible for operating the aluminum smelting facilities located at Tiwai Point. Additionally, Rio Tinto has completed the acquisition of Sumitomo Chemical's 2.46% stake in Boyne Smelters Limited. The completion of this transaction, coupled with Mitsubishi's recent acquisition of an 11.65% stake in the plant, has increased Rio Tinto's total equity in Boyne Smelters Limited to 73.5%.
