This week, rare earth prices fluctuated. On one hand, before the news of the Myanmar war leading to border closures spread, the upstream market believed that raw materials were sufficient, while downstream demand did not grow as expected, leading to a lack of confidence in the market outlook and active selling by companies. Additionally, some metal plants, facing financial pressure, chose to sell at low prices, causing early upstream prices to weaken. On the other hand, as the news of the Myanmar border closure quickly spread, the expectation of reduced rare earth ore imports pushed prices higher.
Under these circumstances, SMM expects rare earth prices to fluctuate upward in the short term.
