A spokesman for BHP told Reuters on Friday that the company's Olympic Dam copper mine was facing power outages after severe thunderstorms destroyed the transmission infrastructure in northern South Australia. He said that the Olympic Dam copper mine, located 560 kilometers north of Adelaide, had suspended operations and switched its ground infrastructure to use on-site standby generators for minimal maintenance. The spokesman said, "ElectraNet (power transmission infrastructure group) staff are working hard to restore power as soon as possible, and we are working with them to better understand the scale of the impact and the recovery schedule.
