Global Metals Market Report: Aluminum, Copper, Lead, Tin Shortages in August 2024 Amid Zinc, Nickel Surpluses

According to the latest report released by the World Bureau of Metal Statistics (WBMS), the global supply of primary aluminum faced a shortage of 183,400 tonnes in August 2024. Meanwhile, the global refined copper also experienced a shortage of 64,436 tonnes, while refined lead was short by 58,600 tonnes, and refined tin by 1,300 tonnes. In contrast, the global supply of zinc sheets exceeded demand by 30,300 tonnes, and refined nickel had a surplus of 4,600 tonnes.

From the beginning of 2024 to August, the global refined copper supply was in surplus by 37,692 tonnes, while primary aluminum had an excess of 450,400 tonnes. Zinc sheets, refined lead, and refined tin all recorded surpluses of 65,700 tonnes, 74,800 tonnes, and 25,800 tonnes respectively. The refined nickel supply surpassed demand by 66,200 tonnes.
