[SMM Analysis: September LiPF6 Price Changes] The price of LiPF6 increased 1.7% MoM in September.

In September 2024, the price of lithium carbonate, a core raw material in the battery industry, began to rebound after a decline. Data shows that in September, the price of battery-grade lithium carbonate increased from 74,650 yuan/mt to 75,650 yuan/mt, a rise of 1.3%. Meanwhile, the price of industrial-grade lithium carbonate also rose from 70,450 yuan/mt to 71,500 yuan/mt, an increase of 1.5%.

The rise in lithium carbonate prices also led to an increase in the price of LiPF6. As an important electrolyte material for lithium batteries, the price of LiPF6 in September rose from 53,950 yuan/mt to 54,875 yuan/mt, an increase of 1.7%.

Despite a slight increase in market prices in September, overall, there was still minor fluctuation. This fluctuation reflects the market's uncertainty about future demand and the cautious attitude of producers in price adjustments. The increase in LiPF6 prices was directly influenced by the rebound in lithium carbonate prices. As the main raw material for LiPF6, the increase in lithium carbonate costs led producers to continuously adjust prices, resulting in a 1.7% rise in LiPF6 in September.

However, future price trends still need to be monitored in light of the global economic situation and changes in industry supply and demand to better grasp market dynamics. Overall, the market remains somewhat resilient, ready to respond to potential future fluctuations.

Two Major Super Battery Plants Terminated
Recently, battery joint venture ACC has terminated its plans to build super battery plants in Germany and Italy. The decision to suspend the construction of battery plants in Germany and Italy was made due to considerations of shifting from nickel-based battery chemistry to lithium iron phosphate battery technology. The company had previously planned to build three super plants in Europe — in France, Germany, and Italy — with a total investment of approximately 7 billion euros. The goal was to increase ACC's battery production capacity to at least 120 GWh by 2030. However, the projects in Germany and Italy have been on hold since May 2024. With this announcement of termination, only the French battery plant will remain operational.
