Beijing (Gasgoo)- On September 25, autonomous driving technology firm WeRide announced a strategic partnership with Uber Technologies, Inc. The collaboration aims to introduce WeRide’s autonomous vehicles on the Uber ride-hailing platform, with operations set to begin in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by the end of 2024.

The initial phase of the partnership will roll out in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the UAE. A fleet of WeRide autonomous vehicles will be integrated into the local Uber app, allowing users to select these self-driving cars as a new ride option. This partnership, however, will not extend to the U.S. or Chinese markets.

Currently, WeRide operates the largest autonomous taxi (Robotaxi) fleet in the UAE, offering services via the TXAI app. In July 2023, WeRide secured the UAE's first and only nationwide permit for autonomous vehicle road testing and operations on public roads.

Founded in 2017, WeRide holds autonomous driving licenses in China, the UAE, Singapore, and the U.S. The company focuses on transforming mobility through autonomous technology and has expanded its operations to 30 cities across seven countries, offering solutions in smart mobility, freight, and environmental services through its diversified product matrix, including Robotaxis, Robobuses, Robovans, and Robosweepers.
