Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On September 25, BYD celebrated the rollout of its 9 millionth new energy vehicle (NEV) at its factory in Shenshan Special Cooperation Zone, Shenzhen city, making it the first automaker in the world to achieve this milestone.

This accomplishment comes just over two months after BYD produced its 8 millionth NEV, underscoring the company's rapid acceleration in the electric vehicle sector.

In 2024, BYD has continued to set new sales records. In the first half of the year, the company sold 1.607 million new energy passenger vehicles, solidifying its position as the global leader in NEV sales. BYD's luxury car brand, YANGWANG, has also made significant strides, contributing to the automaker's ongoing push towards the high-end market.

The 9 millionth NEV—a YANGWANG U9—was officially delivered in August this year. Powered by BYD's signature e⁴ platform and DiSus-X system, the U9 has brought supercar performance and racing culture to a wider audience, showcasing the company's cutting-edge technological achievements in the NEV space.

To meet the high-performance and quality demands of the U9, YANGWANG constructed a dedicated factory in Shenshan Special Cooperation Zone, the first in China designed exclusively for the production of electric supercars. The U9 is also the country's first mass-produced vehicle to feature a carbon fiber body structure, incorporating the world's largest carbon monocoque cabin. According to BYD, the carbon fiber materials used in the U9 are five to six times stronger than steel.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
