On September 23, the National Energy Administration released the national power industry statistics for January to August 2024.
By the end of August, the cumulative installed power generation capacity nationwide was approximately 3.13 billion kilowatts, up 14.0% YoY. Among this, solar power installed capacity was about 750 million kilowatts, up 48.8% YoY; wind power installed capacity was around 470 million kilowatts, up 19.9% YoY.
From January to August, the cumulative average utilization of power generation equipment nationwide was 2,328 hours, a decrease of 103 hours compared to the same period last year. During the same period, major power generation enterprises completed power source project investments of 497.6 billion yuan, up 5.1% YoY. Power grid project investments reached 333 billion yuan, up 23.1% YoY. From January to August, new solar power installations were 139.99 million kilowatts, with 16.46 million kilowatts added in August, up 2.88% YoY.

It is understood that the National Energy Administration has officially approved the power source allocation plan for the "Qaidam Desert Base (East Golmud) Base". The planned construction scale of the power source projects at this base is 17.44 million kilowatts, including 10 million kilowatts of photovoltaic power, 5 million kilowatts of wind power, 2.64 million kilowatts of coal-fired power, 0.1 million kilowatts of solar thermal power, and 1.5 million kilowatts (for 4 hours) of electrochemical energy storage. The total investment in the projects is about 86 billion yuan. The new energy will be transmitted to Guangxi through the "Qinghai-Guangxi DC" UHV power transmission project.
