Canadian Miner First Quantum Halts Operations at Zambian Copper Mine After Fatal Accident

According to SMM, First Quantum Minerals, a Canadian miner, stated that its Kansanshi copper mine in Zambia has suspended operations due to an accident. First Quantum said that it has launched an internal investigation into an accident that occurred on Sunday, involving a crawler dozer and a light vehicle, which resulted in the tragic death of an employee. The company stated in a press release, "The company will resume operations in the area once it is determined that it can do so safely." The Kansanshi mine produced 134,827 tonnes of copper and 68,970 ounces of gold in 2023.
