Beijing (Gasgoo)- GAC Group's new energy vehicle brand AION officially entered the Philippine market with the opening of its first flagship showroom in the Makati business district of Manila, the automaker recently announced.

AION also announced partnerships with dealers in three major Philippine cities, showcasing its rapid market expansion and commitment to promoting new energy vehicles in Southeast Asia.

The Philippines, the fourth-largest automotive market in ASEAN, offers significant potential due to its large population and the 17.8% year-on-year growth in passenger vehicle sales in the first half of 2024. Additionally, the Philippine government has been actively encouraging the development of new energy vehicles.

In September, the Philippine Department of Energy (DOE) is reportedly drafting new guidelines requiring gas stations to install and operate electric vehicle (EV) charging facilities. If passed, this would accelerate the adoption of EV infrastructure across the country. The DOE is also expected to release an updated EV Industry Roadmap, outlining specific goals for a sustainable transition to electrification in the transport sector.

Moreover, the Philippine government recently extended its tax exemption on EV imports until 2028, providing a further boost to the sector.

Jin Rongbo, Sales Director of GAC AION Southeast Asia, stated that the Philippines, with its market potential and government support for EVs, presents a vast growth opportunity. AION plans to continue expanding its sales and service network in the region.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
