Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On September 13, XPENG's new-generation S5 ultra-fast charging stations officially came online in four cities, namely, Shanghai, Tianjin, Zhengzhou, and Wuhan, according to XPENG's press release.

Back in June this year, XPENG revealed plans to introduce its S5 liquid-cooled ultra-fast charging stations later this year. According to the company, the S5 charging station features a peak charging power of 800 kW, capable of delivering over one kilometer of range in just one second. With a maximum output current of 800A and a voltage of 1,000V, the S5 is designed to provide a seamless charging experience, and can be activated in under 13 seconds after plugging in.

In terms of design, the S5 uses a front-line output and left-side charging gun holder, allowing users to easily access and plug in the charging gun. Additionally, the charging gun is equipped with an intelligent indicator light that helps users track the charging process—from plug-in to initiation and completion.

XPENG confirmed that the S5 ultra-fast charging stations will soon be rolled out in Shenzhen, Beijing, Chengdu, Xi'an, Dongguan, Datong, Guiyang, Foshan, Zunyi, Chongqing, Yantai, Anshun, and Panzhihua cities.

The company is actively expanding its energy replenishment network. As of September 1, XPENG has established over 1,440 self-operated charging stations, including more than 560 ultra-fast charging stations. Additionally, XPENG has integrated over 88,000 third-party charging stations into its network. By 2026, XPENG aims to build 10,000 self-operated charging stations, with 4,500 of them being liquid-cooled ultra-fast charging ones.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
