SMM Analysis: Gradual Recovery in Energy Storage Market Demand, But Battery Cell Prices Continue to Decline

SMM, September 13: This week, 314Ah and 280Ah energy storage battery cell prices experienced a slight decline, while 100Ah and 50Ah energy storage battery cell prices remained stable.
Entering September, energy storage market demand gradually recovered, coupled with the upcoming Q4 peak season expectation, both production and sales of energy storage battery cells showed a growth trend. In terms of product structure, the application proportion, maturity, and capacity of 314Ah battery cells continued to increase in H2, leading to a rapid decline in the prices of 314Ah battery cells. However, in the short term, 280Ah battery cells remain the market mainstream. Under the background of overcapacity and intensified market competition, the prices of 280Ah battery cells continue to fall. The 100Ah and 50Ah battery cells are mainly used in residential energy storage and base stations, with relatively stable market demand. The short-term supply-demand landscape shows no significant changes, and after the previous price drop along with cost declines, prices are temporarily stable.
Looking ahead, the main material prices of battery cells will fluctuate slightly in the short term, giving little room for cost reduction. As 280Ah battery cell prices have already approached the cost line, manufacturers might keep prices stable in the short term due to capital or new product transitions. The 314Ah battery cell, with its theoretical cost lower than the 280Ah battery cell, might see further price declines with the continuous improvement in capacity and maturity. The 50Ah and 100Ah battery cell prices are expected to remain stable in the short term, given no significant changes in supply-demand and costs.
