GAC Group posts YoY growth in Aug. 2024 MPV sales

GAC Group saw its MPV sales climb 0.46% and 0.58% year on year to 26,668 units in August 2024 and 183,586 units for the year-to-date period, respectively.

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- GAC Group today announced a vehicle sales volume of 148,190 units for the month of August 2024, representing a year-on-year downturn of 24.69%.

For the first eight months of this year, the Guangzhou-headquartered automobile group saw its cumulative vehicle sales fall 25.68% over a year ago to 1,152,424 units.

Regarding the performance by vehicle type, GAC Group sold 148,141 passenger vehicles (PVs) last month, indicating a 24.7% decline year-over year. Of those, the SUV sector contributed most to the PV sales, with 73,748 units sold in the month.

For the Jan.-Aug. period of the year, the group's PV sales totaled 1,152,163 units, which shrank 25.69% over a year earlier.

Notably, despite the drop in overall PV sales, GAC Group still saw its MPV sales climb 0.46% and 0.58% year on year to 26,668 units in August and 183,586 units for the year-to-date period, respectively.

In addition, GAC Group's new energy vehicle (NEV) sales reached 235,548 units (-29.88% YoY) for the first eight months, 37,571 units of which were sold in August alone.

Breaking down the sales by specific subsidiaries, GAC Honda and GAC Toyota posted year-on-year decreases of over 20% in both Aug. and Jan.-Aug. sales. GAC Trumpchi sold 27,530 vehicles last month, resulting in a year-to-date volume of 242,209 units. Moreover, the electric vehicle-dedicated GAC AION sold 31,772 vehicles in August and surpassed the 180,000-unit mark in its Jan.-Aug. sales.
