Volkswagen's PowerCo cuts production capacity: On 5 September, a spokesman for Volkswagen Group Works council said that the group had decided that its battery manufacturing company PowerCo would build only one production line at its Salzgitter plant. The planned second production line has been put on hold for the time being, the PowerCo spokesman said, adding that the company is still on track to start production in Salzgitter in 2025, and will have the flexibility to expand its production capacity according to demand in the future. According to SMM's earlier report, PowerCo's Salzgitter plant was designed to have a total capacity of 40GWh, so the adjusted annual capacity will be 20GWh. PowerCo's two other battery plants in Valencia, Spain, and Ontario, Canada, have not yet announced any production cuts or slowdowns.
