Beijing (Gasgoo)- Chinese autonomous driving solution provider Pony.ai recently received a permit for autonomous driving testing on expressways in Shenzhen city, the company announced via WeChat on August 29.

This new permit allows Pony.ai to conduct Robotaxi road tests on key expressways, including the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Riverside Expressway, Nanping Expressway, and Shuiguan Expressway.

The Guangzhou-Shenzhen Riverside Expressway serves as a vital artery connecting Qianhai in Shenzhen to Shenzhen Airport and neighboring cities. This development lays a strong foundation for Pony.ai's future plans to expand its Robotaxi operations along airport routes and across contiguous urban areas.

Since launching its autonomous ride-hailing demonstration services in Shenzhen in 2022, Pony.ai has quickly gained popularity among local commuters. Its current operational area covers nearly 1,500 pick-up and drop-off points in core regions such as Qianhai, Bao'an Central District, Houhai in Nanshan, and Shenzhen Bay. The service operates from 7:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., covering peak traffic hours, and is accessible through the Pony Pilot app, providing a safe, comfortable, and efficient travel experience.

To date, Pony.ai has accumulated over 35 million kilometers of autonomous driving test experience, including more than 3.5 million kilometers of driverless testing.
