Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On the evening of August 28, SAIC-GM-Wuling ("SGMW") officially put its new compact SUV, the Wuling Xingguang S, onto the market. Built on the D platform of Wuling's Tianyu architecture, the vehicle features a price range of 99,800 yuan to 129,800 yuan.

Like the original Wuling Xingguang, the Xingguang S offers both BEV (battery electric vehicle) and PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle) options. However, their positions differ, as the Xingguang S is a compact SUV, measuring 4,745 mm in length, 1,890 mm in width, and 1,680 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,800 mm, making it relatively large for its segment.

The exterior design retains the aesthetic language of the Xingguang series, with a focus on a "star-wing" aesthetic that emphasizes a typical new energy vehicle style. The front grille features a closed-off design for a sleek appearance, while the vehicle's front end is simple, with split-type headlamps on either side. The headlamp assemblies are narrow and sharp, and all variants come standard with automatic headlights and turn-assist lighting.

The body design emphasizes visual appeal through surface styling, staying true to Wuling's practical approach by prioritizing function over luxury. For example, while the Xingguang S doesn't have hidden door handles, it does feature panoramic cameras and front and rear parking sensors. The entire lineup is equipped with 235/55 R18 tires, and the exterior mirrors support heating and auto-folding when the car is locked.

At the rear, the Xingguang S has a rounded design, with a subtly raised spoiler on top and a dual-tone bumper below. The vehicle is available in four painting colors.

The interior continues the minimalist theme, offering a sense of depth and layering. Buyers can choose from three interior color schemes: Light Sand, Dark Black, and Coconut Brown. The steering wheel is a dual-spoke flat-bottom design, paired with an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster. The central control screen is 15.6 inches and runs the LING OS smart vehicle system, which supports over-the-air (OTA) updates, voice commands, remote app control, and includes common features like navigation and entertainment.

The Wuling Xingguang S can seat five people, with leather upholstery and electrically adjustable driver’s seat. The rear seats include a foldable armrest, providing ample storage space and four charging ports (two in the front, two in the rear). The rear legroom is generous, and the back seats can recline up to 127 degrees, accommodating various seating scenarios.

The Xingguang S offers both BEV and PHEV powertrain options. The BEV version features a single motor with a maximum output of 150 kW and 310 Nm of torque, paired with a 60 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack, delivering a CLTC range of 510 kilometers. It supports 2C fast charging, allowing for an additional 200 km of range in just 15 minutes. The PHEV version includes a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine with a maximum output of 78 kW. It comes with battery options of 9.5 kWh and 20.5 kWh, offering battery-powered range of 60 km and 130 km, respectively, and a combined range of up to 1,100 kilometers.

In terms of smart driving features, the entry-level variants come with cruise control, while the top-tier variant is equipped with a Level 2 advanced driver assistance system (ADAS).

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
