Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On August 25, Great Wall Motor's HAVAL brand officially began pre-sales of its second-generation HAVAL H9 model, revealing prices for three gasoline variants ranging from 205,900 to 235,900 yuan. An additional 2,000 yuan is required for models featuring an optional rear-mounted spare tire.

The new-generation HAVAL H9 boasts significant exterior updates and a longer body. Its interior showcases a more tech-focused design, and it offers two powertrain options: a 2.0T gasoline engine and a 2.4T diesel engine, while retaining its body-on-frame construction.

The new H9's exterior features a large square grille and retro-inspired round headlights, with a four-spoke chrome strip arranged in parallel lines adorned with rivet accents. The central section is highlighted by the silver "HAVAL" lettering. The vehicle also includes a protective skid plate under the front bumper, designed to safeguard against impacts in challenging off-road conditions.

The side profile of the second-generation HAVAL H9 is defined by a pronounced waistline running the full length of the vehicle, adding to its rugged, off-road aesthetic. The boxy wheel arches complement the overall tough design. The gasoline versions offer a choice of 17, 18, or 19-inch wheels, while the diesel variant comes exclusively with 18-inch wheels.

In terms of dimensions, for the variant equipped with an exterior-mounted spare tire, the new H9 measures 5,070mm in length, 1,976mm in width, and 1,930mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,850mm.

Alternatively, the version with an exterior storage box instead of a spare tire offers slightly different dimensions. This model is 4,950mm in length, extending to 5,000mm with certain configurations, 1,960mm in width, which increases to 1,976mm depending on the options selected, and maintains the same height of 1,930mm and wheelbase of 2,850mm.

At the rear, the second-generation HAVAL H9 sports a classic off-road look with an exposed rear-mounted spare tire, which can optionally be covered. The vertically aligned two-piece taillight design is consistent with the HAVAL Menglong model. The rear door retains its side-hinged design, while a robust rear bumper and left-mounted license plate underscore the vehicle's rugged character.

Inside, the new H9 adopts a fresh design language with a three-spoke multifunction steering wheel and a 14.6-inch floating central touchscreen, giving the vehicle a youthful appeal. The updated electronic gear shifter enhances the overall refined sense. The air vents are positioned below the central display, flanked by physical control buttons, creating a cohesive interior layout. Key features include remote one-button start, smartphone app-based remote monitoring, 540-degree panoramic imaging, integrated parking assist, and firmware over-the-air (FOTA) updates.

Notably, HAVAL has focused on improving passenger comfort, traditionally a pain point for off-road vehicles. The second-generation HAVAL H9’s rear headroom measures 901mm, shoulder room 1,491mm, elbow room 1,567mm, and hip room 1,443mm. The five-seater version's second-row seats can fold flat, offering a cargo capacity of 791 liters. When the second-row seats are folded flat, this expands to 1,814 liters.

Under the hood, the second-generation HAVAL H9 continues with the 2.0T engine paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and introduces a new 2.4T diesel engine coupled with a 9-speed automatic transmission, catering to diesel enthusiasts. The gasoline engine delivers a maximum power output of 165 kW, while the diesel engine produces 137 kW. Built on a body-on-frame structure, some variants include a four-wheel-drive system. The addition of towing capabilities further enhances its off-road prowess and versatility. Improved approach and departure angles significantly boost off-road performance.

In terms of off-road capability, the new HAVAL H9 offers an approach angle of 31 degrees, a departure angle of 26 degrees, a ground clearance of 224mm, and a wading depth of 800mm. The vehicle comes with TOD intelligent four-wheel drive and three differential locks (Mlock mechanical locking) for the front, center, and rear. It also features a second-generation all-terrain control system with settings for snow, mud, sand, 4L (low-range), eco, standard, and sport modes.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
