The prototype of the BYD Seal 06 GT model will make its debut at the Chengdu Motor Show 2024 on August 30.

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- In a recent interview, Zhang Zhuo, General Manager of BYD's Ocean Series Marketing Division, revealed that the prototype of the Seal 06 GT model will make its debut at the Chengdu Motor Show 2024 on August 30. The new model is anticipated to begin pre-sales during the auto show and is expected to hit the market in September.

Touted as the "industry's first rear-wheel-drive all-electric hot hatchback", the Seal 06 GT embodies the design ethos of BYD's Ocean Series while showcasing the company's technological prowess in its powertrain. According to information from China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology ("MIIT"), the vehicle's registered names include Seal 06 GT, Seal MINI, Seal 05 EV, and Seal X, with the final name set to be unveiled during the car's debut.

The exterior of the Seal 06 GT features BYD's latest design language, characterized by a minimalist and sporty aesthetic. The front end combines a closed-off grille with a bold lower bumper, accentuated by a large air intake and deflector, optimizing airflow and enhancing the car's dynamic and modern appearance. The front bumper is equipped with a full-width heat dissipation opening and sharp, angular side designs that contribute to the vehicle's aggressive, sporty vibe.

To cater to diverse consumer preferences, the Seal 06 GT offers an optional 18-inch large-diameter wheel set with 225/50 R18 tires. This configuration not only improves driving stability but also reinforces the car's stylish and athletic look.

At the rear, the vehicle is fitted with a large spoiler that complements the through-type taillight assembly, enhancing both aesthetics and stability at higher speeds. The rear diffuser and ventilation slots further optimize the car's aerodynamics, ensuring stability during high-speed driving.

The Seal 06 GT measures 4,630mm in length, 1,880mm in width, and 1,490mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,820mm.

The interior of the Seal 06 GT continues BYD's tradition of refined and tech-forward design, featuring a well-organized central console with a standalone fully digital instrument panel and a floating multimedia touchscreen. This setup not only enhances the car's modern vibe but also provides the driver with an intuitive and convenient user experience. The car's seats are designed with an integrated sports style, offering both visual dynamism and excellent support and comfort, ensuring a stable and enjoyable ride for passengers.

In terms of power, the Seal 06 GT is expected to offer both single-motor rear-wheel drive and dual-motor all-wheel drive versions, based on previously filed information. The single-motor rear-wheel drive variant will come with two power options, delivering 160 kW and 165 kW, respectively. The dual-motor all-wheel drive model will feature an asynchronous motor on the front axle with a maximum power of 110 kW, and a permanent magnet synchronous motor on the rear axle with a maximum power of 200 kW. The vehicle will be equipped with a battery packs available in 59.52 kWh or 72.96 kWh capacities, with corresponding CLTC ranges of 505 km, 605 km, and 550 km.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
