Shanghai (Gasgoo)- As of August 5, 2024, NIO has surpassed 50 million battery swaps, according to the company’s announcement. This achievement comes just 144 days after reaching 40 million swaps in March this year.

Since the beginning of August this year, NIO has been averaging around 79,000 battery swaps per day, meaning a NIO vehicle leaves a swap station fully charged every 1.1 seconds.

The company said it has observed a growing number of users preferring battery swapping as their primary method of recharging. Nearly 60% of the energy replenished by NIO users now comes from the battery swap service. Compared to public charging, battery swapping has collectively saved users over 28.5 billion minutes.

As of August 6, NIO has established a comprehensive network of 2,465 battery swap stations (826 stations are alone expressways), 3,930 electric vehicle charging stations, and 22,940 charging piles nationwide. Meanwhile, it has had access to over 1,029,000 third-party charging piles.

Looking ahead, NIO has ambitious plans for 2024. The company aims to add 1,000 new battery swap stations in China, bringing the total to over 3,310 stations. Additionally, NIO plans to install 20,000 new charging piles, increasing the total to over 41,000 by the end of the year.

NIO's battery swap service has also attracted a host of partners. The company has forged strategic alliances with seven automakers, including Changan Automobile, Geely Holding Group, Chery Automobile, JAC Group, Lotus, GAC Group, and FAW Group. Furthermore, NIO has entered into energy and power cooperation agreements with several major companies, such as State Grid, China Southern Power Grid, and WENERGY Group.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
