According to foreign media reports, China Molybdenum Co., Ltd. in Luoyang and other miners have applied to register copper produced in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) as branded copper for London Metal Exchange (LME) contracts. If the application is successful, a large amount of Congolese copper will enter LME-registered warehouses. Considering the time required to process the application, Congolese copper may enter LME-registered warehouses as early as next year. Sources said that the annual production capacity of Tenke Fungurume (TFM) in the Congo, which is under the umbrella of China Molybdenum Co., Ltd., is 450,000 tons, and the company is testing its copper products to ensure they meet LME requirements. A significant amount of paperwork needs to be completed to meet LME standards.
