On July 30, 2024, the SMM Indonesia MHP FOB officially launched!

With the continuous investment and production of Indonesia's MHP projects in recent years, Indonesia has become a major MHP supplier in the world, holding a significant position in the global nickel intermediate products market. As the global new energy industry matures and the production of electro-deposited nickel continues to expand, the supporting capacity of global nickel salt refining, ternary cathode material precursors, ternary cathode materials, and refined nickel producers has increased. The price changes of Indonesia MHP FOB have a significant impact on the global MHP price trend. When analyzing the global supply and demand relationship of nickel hydrometallurgy intermediate products, the "Indonesia factor" is becoming increasingly important. Therefore, there is an urgent need to compile and release a price that can fully reflect the Indonesian MHP market, objectively, truly, and timely reflecting the supply and demand status of the MHP market. Hence, the SMM Indonesia MHP FOB price was born. By analyzing this price, we can discover the patterns and reasons for MHP price changes, thereby providing a benchmark for scientific decision-making by nickel industry producers, research institutions, and government departments. After a period of accumulation and market survey, SMM plans to add the SMM Indonesia MHP FOB price point starting from July 30, 2024 (today).

The SMM Indonesia MHP FOB price on July 30, 2024, is $12,678/mtu, up $3/mt from yesterday.

China and Indonesia See Squeezed NPI Profitability Amid Rising Costs and Stable Nickel Ore Prices
[SMM Nickel Flash] China's nickel ore prices remained stable this week, while Indonesian nickel ore prices edged lower. However, driven by the continued rise in domestic coke prices, auxiliary material costs for smelting rose in both China and Indonesia. Combined with ocean freight rates from Indonesia to China remaining at high levels, multiple factors squeezed smelting margins, putting profitability of NPI production in both China and Indonesia under pressure this week.
