Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On the evening of July 25, BYD's two eagerly awaited models—the Song L DM-i and the 2025 Song PLUS DM-i—officially hit the market in Kaifeng city, Henan province. Both new SUV models come in five different trim levels, with prices ranging from 135,800 yuan to 175,800 yuan.

Exterior Design

The Song L DM-i, a new mid-sized SUV addition to BYD's Dynasty series, continues the family's signature front design, boasting high recognizability. The chrome-accented front connects the left and right headlights, while a large grille with horizontal chrome decorations and exaggerated air intake designs adorn the lower section.

The side profile features sleek lines, hidden door handles, and 19-inch low-drag wheels, emphasizing dynamic and powerful aesthetics. The rear incorporates Chinese knot elements in its full-width taillights and segmented spoiler, adding modern and stylish touches.

As a refresh model, the 2025 Song PLUS DM-i retains the Ocean series' design language at the front, with optimized headlight details for a more refined look. The sporty rear design on the existing model is maintained, with the addition of an illuminated BYD logo for enhanced visual recognition.

Overall, the new Song PLUS DM-i measures 4,775mm long, 1,890mm wide, and 1,670mm tall, with a 2,765mm wheelbase, classifying it as a compact SUV.

Interior Design

The interior of the Song L DM-i emphasizes minimalism, with a simple and elegant layout. A 31-color ambient lighting system spans the dashboard, creating a strong tech-savvy ambiance. The three-spoke steering wheel and T-shaped center console incorporate elements of the "Song" series.

The vehicle features a 15.6-inch rotatable floating central control screen, a digital instrument panel, an HUD (head-up display), and the DiLink system-powered intelligent cockpit with a variety of built-in apps. The Song L DM-i has enhanced its smart driving capabilities, offering adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping, lever lane change, and automatic parking functions, significantly improving driving convenience and safety.

The 2025 Song PLUS DM-i continues BYD's Ocean aesthetics design style, with an interior largely unchanged from the current model but with new color options. The car system has also been upgraded, with the entire series equipped with the DiLink100 operating system, enhancing user experience.

Powertrain

Both new models are equipped with BYD's latest DM 5.0 plug-in hybrid technology, consisting of a 1.5L engine and an electric motor. The engine has a maximum power of 74kW, and the electric motor boasts a power of up to 160kW, paired with a lithium iron phosphate Blade battery. They offer three battery-powered range options: 75km, 112km, and 160km.

In terms of range, the official combined range given by the carmaker is 1,500 kilometers for both models. However, in previous media tests, the best performance reached over 2,000 kilometers. Additionally, the Song L DM-i, as a new model, uses a front MacPherson independent suspension and a rear four-link independent suspension, equipped with FSD (frequency selective damping) shock absorbers, ensuring ride comfort and stability.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
